Filling Out Your Tax Forms
Now that you’ve sorted everything out, what goes where? Here’s an overview of your Van Kampen forms and inserts and how they correspond to your IRS Form 1040 and IRS Schedule D. If the only capital gains you incurred in 2007 are capital gain distributions from mutual funds, you may not need to file Schedule D. If you meet certain requirements (specified in the instructions to IRS Form 1040), you may report your capital gain distributions directly on Line 13 of Form 1040 and check the box on that line.
Be sure to complete the rest of Form 1040 and Schedule D as needed, including information about your other investments.
If you have any questions regarding your specific situation, please consult your tax advisor.
